Goals:
  • I can explain how point of view and characterization help create meaning in my book and in a short story. 
  • I can read a text closely, tracking my thinking in a reading journal. 

Announcements: 
  • Read about 100 pages of your independent novel, tracking your thinking in your reading journal.  
  • Write a brief analysis of "Cathedral" or your independent novel, focusing on characterization or point of view. 
  • Please remember to add the annotations to your college essay if you haven't already! 

1.  Book Talk & Reading/Reading Journal Work 

2. Discuss "Cathedral"--Raymond Carver 
    • What is important here? 
    • How does does point of view connect to the author's main purpose? 
    • What might be important about characters here? 
    • Ms. Feliks demo sharing annotations. 

3. Write a brief essay that analyzes point of view or characterization in either "Cathedral" or your independent novel.  
  • Bring a draft to class tomorrow!
