Podcast 2019

Vimal--My name is Vimal Alokam and I interviewed my coach Brian Cairns. We talked about some of the interesting experiences that he had with famous golfers.

Theresa--My podcast is about the experiences of different host parents and how it was for them to welcome a foreign student in their family. I am an exchange student myself so I found it interesting to change perspectives an get to hear about hosting a student. The host moms I interviewed are my friends host parents.

Chloe D.--
I interviewed my friend, Muni, about her experiences with writing/performing poetry and why it’s important to her. She started writing poetry last school year, after doing mostly just story writing. She does a lot of programs (especially writing) with the neutral zone which is why some of the questions are focused on the neutral zone too.

Jameson--
The Berlin Wall was constructed starting August 13, 1961.  Thomas Weidlich’s mother was an East German citizen who happened to be staying at a friend’s apartment in West Berlin in between shifts at the restaurant she worked at.  That night, movement across the border was shut down, and she was separated from her family who was still in the East. Eventually, West German citizens were allowed to visit in the East, but East German Citizens were not allowed to visit in the West.  Thomas grew up in West Berlin, which was surrounded by the Berlin Wall until 1989 when the wall fell. This is a story of one of his experiences visiting family in the East during his teenage years while the wall was still up.

Lily--For my podcast, I interviewed my grandma. She works as a physician’s assistant, and I thought that was interesting, because I like the medical field, and want to go into a career related to it. Here, she talks about the different aspects of her job.

Shogoritchi

Peyton--This interview is about my sister, Avery, who tells us about her experiences canvassing throughout the nation.

Cynthia--I
interviewed my dad, Dr. Islam.  He is currently a professor, patent attorney, he owns a few companies, he’s a biomedical and electrical engineer, and he is a father on top of that.  My dad had an academically challenging life and this interview shows an overall view of the biggest parts of it.

Qasim--
My name is Qasim, and I interviewed my mother, Manal about her personal experience with a family member that had cancer overseas. Her brother was diagnosed with stomach cancer and the healthcare overseas was terrible compared to the U.S. She talks about how it could’ve been different if he were living here.

Jamie--Hi, my name is Jamie and I interviewed my mom, Mary about the tornado in Dexter, in 2012. We live in Dexter so it was a new experience to actually be in the area of a tornado. Luckily none of our family members were hurt and our house wasn’t damaged.

Samantha--In this podcast I interviewed my mom about her experience at the World Series in 1989 when an earthquake occurred.

Katherine--T
his podcast is about one of my mom’s high school memories. We talked about her childhood and I found this part interesting. The story she told is something that I would never expect from her and I want to show the other side of her through this podcast.

Simona--Hi my name is Simona and I’m from Germany. I’m spending my sophomore year studying abroad here in the United States. I interview my whole host family about hosting an exchange student and their experience as host family.

Tyler--My podcast is me interviewing my mom about teaching. She is currently an 8th grade English teacher, and I wanted to get a perspective from a teacher about the ups and downs of teaching, because we as students, don’t usually get that same perspectives teachers have.

Erin--I decided to interview my mother because I wanted to capture her childhood in a podcast that I could share with the class. This podcast is about my mother’s favorite stories from her childhood as well as her teenage years. Within the podcast, she gives stories about her favorite memories from elementary school all the way to college. She also talks about her relationship with her sister and how it impacted her life in a positive way.  Lastly, she talks about small memories from her childhood. For instance, what she wanted to be when she grew up and her favorite class project in elementary school. One thing that I like about this podcast is that it is very easy to relate to. I hope you enjoy the podcast!

Kate--
My dad’s job in China is discussed in this podcast, as well as a couple stories from his work life.

Maria--
I interviewed my neighbor who is from England. Talked to her about the difference and what it is like here in Michigan and just had a nice discussion.

Jayden--For my podcast, I interviewed my mom about our relationship. My mom’s approach to parenting and motherhood is unconventional, and most people don’t view our relationship as a typical mother-daughter bond, which is why I chose this as my topic. Throughout the course of my podcast I want to show my mother’s philosophies on motherhood as well as demonstrate the closeness of our relationship

Forest--
For my podcast, I interviewed my Aunt, Jessie Hadley, who owned a business in the UP of Michigan for over 20 years, and just recently sold it. The business she owned is called “Woods and Water Ecotours”, and is located in Hessel, Michigan, where nature-based tours are given to guests in and around the Les Cheneaux Islands. Most of the tours that she gave, were from sea kayak and on the water but she also did hiking, biking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, dog sledding and cave tours. Her businesses goal was to give guests unique experiences in nature without harming the environment, as well as to sustain income. She enjoyed her time owning the business and now lives back in Ann Arbor Michigan where she grew up. During this podcast you will be able to hear what the business meant to her and what effect it had on the community, and be able to see some pictures taken of the business. Hope you enjoy!

Aiden--Six years ago, I discovered one of the most thrilling, exciting, and all around amazing sports I’ve ever seen and experienced. This is a short story about motocross, how it all started for me, and where I’m at today.

Matthew--
In this podcast, I interview my mom. I discuss with her a story in which I was the main subject of, yet have no real memory of, that being the surgery I had to receive when I was only 7 months old. We talk about how it affected me, my family, and the people around us.

Rani--
This podcast is about my cousin, Aash. He was the lead marketer for a Canadian mattress company, Endy. He went on a show called Dragons’ Den, the Canadian version of Shark Tank, to try to get Endy a Dragon to invest in the company along with the CEO of the company. I asked him about the whole experience and how it felt. I learned about how hard he worked, and he related it back to things I, and my classmates, are doing now, which shows how we can achieve anything we set our mind to.

Shoshana--For this podcast, I decided to interview my mom on the topic of Judaism. She is very involved in the Jewish community and has been Jewish her whole life, so I thought that she would have a lot of interesting information and experiences to share. The main things I focused on were her thoughts on different aspects of being Jewish, such as challenges she's faced and why she enjoys being Jewish so much, as well as the story of my grandmother's immigration to escape the Holocaust. With this podcast, I hope to help inform others on what it's like to be Jewish and how it can impact one's life.
