• I can read a text closely, tracking my thinking in a reading journal.

• Read about 100 pages of your independent novel, tracking your thinking in your reading journal.  

1.  Book Talk & Reading/Reading Journal Work 

• In the reading section of your notebook:  What is the point of view in your book?  Why is it important to the meaning in the text? 
• Talk about this with your partner. 

2. Point of view & Characterization 

• Read Cathedral--Raymond Carver 
  • What is important here? 
  • How does does point of view connect to the author's main purpose? 
  • What might be important about characters here?
