Goals:
  • I can explain how plot helps create meaning in my book and in a short story. 
  • I can read a text closely, tracking my thinking in a reading journal. 

Announcements: 
  • Read about 100 pages of your independent novel, tracking your thinking in your reading journal.  Ms. Feliks will assess reading journals this week. 
  • For Friday (tomorrow), bring in one page a year-long project: Senior Portfolio. You need an artifact and a piece of writing.   
  • Reminder--if I graded something, and you turn it in after it is in the gradebook, I need a late slip for it! 

1. Reading or RI

RI pre-test 
  • Go to the media center site
  • Click on Reading Inventory 
  • Your username is your student ID
  • Password=Gmail password

2. Notes:  Setting, Symbols, Motifs & Tone
  • Look up two sources to find the definition of each of the Literary Terms and add it to the Slideshow
  • Choose 3 texts that most people in this class have read, and describe how your term works in that text to help the meaning. 

3. Discuss--"Mericans" by Sandra Cisneros
  • What is interesting about this text?  
  • Generate some thesis statements
