Announcements: 
  • Read your choice book to your reading goal by next Monday
  • Join the Skyline bookclub!  We will be reading Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia.  The first meeting is Tuesday, October 8th during both lunches in the main office conference room. 
  • For Friday, read and annotate the Article of the Week 
  • Friday, we will take a quiz on participles & out-of-order adjectives (plus FANBOYS and sentence errors)

3. Mini-Lesson:  Imagery
  • Pick a picture and describe it using lots of detail and imagery. 
  •  Underline what you consider to be effective imagery.   ​See if you can find the original picture.

4. Writing Workshop time

  • Type up your vignette/connected vignette into a new draft. 
  • Highlight one place where you used imagery effectively.  Why do you think it was effective.
  • Meet with writing groups tomorrow.

  • 7 -8 write two things you don’t like that others do
  • 9 – 10 write two things you don’t think you could live without

After creating this list we jump to a writing sprint, asking students to choose one topic at time to write about quickly.

2.  Mini-Lesson: Show/Not Tell
  • With your group, describe the bolded adjective on your paper without ever saying the word. Use descriptions from the 5 senses as well as a FANBOYS sentence to show/not tell the word.  

3. Writing Workshop Time
  • Revise your poem from last week
  • Work on a new poem idea
  • Include at least one moment in your poem of show/not tell.  Mark that section or line with a comment and explain WHY you thought that was an important detail to show. 
    • ​Print out the final draft of your poem without your name on it. We will share them tomorrow anonymously.
