Goals:
  • I can work with a group to use the technique of show/not tell to describe a place.
  • I can use the show/not tell technique in my poem.

Announcements:
  • Read your book everyday this week for at least 15 minutes.
  • Read, annotate and write a response to the Article of the Week
  • Have at least one more final draft poem finished by Friday.
  • FANBOYS quiz tomorrow
  • Join the Skyline bookclub!  We will be reading Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia.  The first meeting is Tuesday, October 8th during both lunches in the main office conference room.

1. Reading & Book Talk

2.  Mini-Lesson: Show/Not Tell
  • With your group, describe the bolded adjective on your paper without ever saying the word. Use descriptions from the 5 senses as well as a FANBOYS sentence to show/not tell the word.

3. Writing Workshop Time
  • Revise your poem from last week
  • Work on a new poem idea
  • Include at least one moment in your poem of show/not tell.  Mark that section or line with a comment and explain WHY you thought that was an important detail to show.
    • Print out the final draft of your poem without your name on it. We will share them tomorrow anonymously.
