Goals:
  • I can say at least 5 of my classmates' names.
  • I can explain what I notice in how a poem is written and develop some logical theories for WHY it is written that way.
  • I can "Use precise words and phrases, telling details, and sensory language to convey a vivid picture of the experiences, events, setting, and/or characters"

Teddy says:
  • Friday:  Blog Post #2 Due.
  • Friday:  Article of the Week #1 Due
  • If you would like your pet to be featured in the daily agenda, send me a picture to [email protected]

1.  Book Talk & Reading

2. Writer's Notebook #4: "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening"--Robert Frost
  • What do you notice?  Mark down at least 5 different things (lines, phrases, techniques) that you notice.
    •  How would you describe the mood in the poem? Why?
    • What promises do you think that the speaker might have to keep? Why might the speaker repeat the final line?
  • Reread the poem and pay close attention to the rhyme scheme. Write an emulation of this poem where you mimic the rhyme scheme.
  • Or, rewrite the poem in a different season.
  • Or, describe a place in a way that conveys an emotion or mood.

3. Notes: Imagery, Metaphor, Simile
  • Imagery: Using description from the 5 senses to create a picture in the reader's mind.
  • Simile:  Comparing two things using like/as
  • Metaphor:  Comparing two things without a word of comparison.
  • Activity:  With your group, describe the location that I gave you WITHOUT saying the location, but WITH imagery.  Bonus for including simile & metaphor.
