1.  Analyze how complex characters (e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.

​2.  Analyze how an author’s choices concerning how to structure a text, order events within it (e.g., parallel plots), and manipulate time (e.g., pacing, flashbacks) create such effects as mystery, tension, or surprise.

  • Watch 3.2--3.5 (1st)
    • ​Quotations from Act 3
    • Reading Journal:  What do you think of the adults in this play?  Do they help or hurt Romeo or Juliet? Point to a specific example of ways they help or hurt the young protagonists. 
  • Act 4 
    • ​With your group, read through your lines aloud.
      • ​1st time--what do the lines mean?  Annotate your paper.
        • Underline what you think are the most important lines in the section. 
      • 2nd time--assign roles and discuss HOW to say it. Annotate with directions for what you will emphasize. 
      • 3rd Time--Practice 
        • Prepare to read the roles in your part with emphasis AND
        • ​Prepare to explain why they picked the most important lines and what they show about the character.
