  • Use mentor texts to generate ideas for writing

Announcements: 
  • Homework: Read for 15 minutes tonight every day of the weekend! 
  • Homework:  Read, annotate and write a paragraph long response to the article of the week.  Due before class on Friday.  
  • Blog Post #2 is due on Friday to Google Classroom.  



1. Reading & Book Talk
  • Read for 10 minutes.  
  • How many pages can you comfortably read in 10 minutes? 
  • Multiply that number by 12.  That is your reading goal each week for this book. 
  • Write down your goal in your Writer's Notebook next to your other goals. 



2. Notebook: Low Battery
  • Write next to this text.
    • ​Respond to the overall message. OR
    • Write down and respond to one line. OR
    • Write your own poem. 

3. Writing a nuanced claim: NOTES ​
  • Go back to your claim from Friday.  Is it compelling, debatable & defensible? Is it nuanced?  
    • ​Revise it! 
    • Share examples on a continuum.  
    • How could we find the best evidence for a claim?  Do one together. 
  • Now, write a paragraph (with evidence from one of the sources that we read this week) that argues your claim. Turn these in to Ms. Feliks
