Straw Tower Activity!

Objective:Each group needs to construct a straw tower with a maximum inflated balloon on top. The group that builds the highest free-standing tower wins the competition!
Materials  

  • 20-25 straws per group
  • 2 balloons per group
  • 1 long strip of tape per group
  • Scissors for each group
  • Yardstick for teacher/facilitator
  • Timer 
    • The straws can be broken or torn to accommodate the tower.
      Tape can only be used to connect straws- It cannot be used for the structure of the tower or to hold the tower down.

      The balloon cannot be taped to the structure!


      1. 3 minutes:  Planning and blueprints 
      2. 20 minutes to build 
      3. The tallest tower gets a prize!
